Types of Aquatic Plants
Water Lilies, Floaters, Marginals, and Oxygenators in Hardy or Tropical

For the plant enthusiast, there is not a more exciting variety of plants to choose from than the aquatics. If you are not familiar with water plants, you are missing out on an entirely different world of ornamentals, including the lotus (Nelumbo) and incredibly vast variety of water lilies (Nymphaea). Like the many different colors of rose blossoms, so are the flowers of the lily pad. Water gardening can also be as simple or huge as the pond construction itself: a small fountain with one miniature water lily, or even a large naturalized pond complete with underwater oxygenators (Anacharis), floaters (water hyacinth), and marginals (cattail, Iris spp.) The latter could also include an adjacent ‘bog garden’ or ‘wet meadow’ naturalized garden of more familiar perennials that are not considered aquatic plants but tolerate and prefer damp soil conditions.

Please keep in mind that All Island Landscape already has many aquatic varieies on-site at our shopyard's aquatic mini-nursery, to look at in person. It is also no problem to special-order any other species and cultivars available, if you do not already see it at our shop center.

Floating aquatic plants also act as coverage, which is the best preventative for algal bloom (also see UV sterilization).
