About Us

The Company

All Island Landscape had humble beginnings. Byron Rymer worked in the landscape field in Boston, married a girl from Newport, moved to Portsmouth, and as he said, "I was stuck here." So he founded the company in Portsmouth in 2000 as Byron's Lawn Care. He began by cutting lawns and trimming shrubs on the weekends. After only a month of weekend work, Byron realized that the business needed more attention. He left his construction job and literally went door-to-door to build the business during the first year.

By 2001, the company needed to hire its first employees. The name of the company was also changed to All Island Landscape. The year proved to be so successful that the company purchased trucks, trailers and equipment to better serve its growing list of steady clients.

In 2002 the company moved to Rymer's back yard on East Main Road in Portsmouth. The garage served as an office and the barn was used to store equipment and supplies. The crew more than doubled that year and Byron added tree work to the growing list of services the company offered. He also hired the company's first RI licensed arborist to the AIL staff.

The business continued to grow, and in 2003, the size of the crew increased again, as did the list of services. The company began laying patios and walkways and purchased its first bucket truck for the tree service. The company also moved its headquarters to a new property next door where the materials yard and garden center opened as a retail outlet.

The following two years All Island Landscape, Inc. expanded even further and extended its name to All Island Landscape & Tree Service, Inc. The bucket truck was upgraded and a tree spade, crane truck, backhoes, excavators and other specialty machinery was added to the company's equipment inventory to make work more efficient, and keep costs down for the growing list of customers.

The retail end has expanded to a full-service materials yard that offers mulches, stone, bluestone, cobblestones, screened loam, and a host of other landscape and masonry materials and supplies. The company is the exclusive area dealer for Unilock® Pavers, and is an authorized dealer for Walpole Woodworkers products and Seaside Casual Furniture.

Today, All Island Landscape has 66 employees at the height of the season, and 31 vehicles. Its list of services continues to grow and includes new plantings, regular lawn maintenance, tree pruning and removals, patio and walkway installation, retaining walls, grading and drainage solutions, as well as new lawn, fountain and pool installations.

The name has changed back to All Island Landscape. Although tree service is a large part of the company's business, the Tree Service Division is now a separate company named New England Tree Preservation Company, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of All Island Landscape.

All Island Landscape serves Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport, Tiverton, Little Compton, Bristol, Warren, Barrington, Jamestown, Wickford, Wakefield and surrounding communities in the Providence and South County areas.
